Two beard services, five dollars apart, and a question we get every day: what’s the difference, and which one do I actually need? Here’s the honest breakdown.
On our menu there is the Beard – Regular Service at $24 and The Elite Beard Service at $29. Read the two descriptions side by side and they can look similar: both shape, both line up, both finish with oil or balm. The difference is in how the lines are made and what happens to the skin underneath — and that difference decides which one is right for your beard this week.
What the Beard Regular includes
The Beard Regular is the maintenance service — the one to book every few weeks to keep a beard you already like looking sharp. Straight from our booking menu, it includes:
- Beard fade — the hair is blended for a smooth transition and a natural fade, tailored to your style
- Beard line-up — sharp, clean lines around the cheeks, neckline and sideburns, with clippers or a straight razor
- Power shave — a close shave to remove stray hairs outside the lines
- Hot towel treatment — to relax the skin and prep it for the finish
- Beard wash and conditioning
- Premium beard oil or balm
- Aftercare advice for maintaining it at home
It is $24 and takes about 15 minutes at all three shops. Fast, thorough, and the right call for most visits.

What the Elite Beard Service includes
The Elite Beard Service is the full treatment — for your beard and for the skin around it. From the menu:
- Personalised beard consultation and style planning
- Beard shaping with precision clipper and scissor work
- Razor detailing for crisp, clean lines
- Luxurious hot towel straight razor shave to define the cheeks and neckline
- Beard wash, conditioning and deep hydration treatment
- Premium oils and balms to nourish and soften
- Cold towel finish and aftercare to soothe the skin
It is $29. Allow about 25 minutes at Maple Ridge and about 20 minutes at Walnut Grove and Willowbrook.
The real difference
Strip away the menu language and it comes down to three things:
1. Scissors on the beard
The Regular shapes with clippers. The Elite adds scissor work, which is how a barber deals with length, bulk and shape on a fuller beard — thinning out the cheeks, evening up the chin, taking the weight out without taking the length off. If your beard is short and even, clippers do the job. If it is long, dense or growing unevenly, scissors are what make it look intentional.
2. A proper hot towel straight razor shave
Both services give you clean lines, but the Elite gets there with a classic hot towel straight razor shave on the cheeks and neck. The hot towel opens the pores and softens the hair, the razor takes it to skin, and the cold towel closes everything back up. It is closer, it lasts longer, and it feels like the reason barbershops exist. The Regular’s power shave is quick and clean, but it is not this.
3. The skin
Deep hydration treatment plus the cold towel finish means the Elite is as much a skin service as a beard service. If the skin under your beard gets dry, itchy or flaky — very common through a Fraser Valley winter — this is the one that fixes it.
Which one do you need?
Book the Beard Regular when…
- You are keeping a beard you already like and just want it sharp again.
- Your beard is short to medium and fairly even.
- You are pairing it with a haircut and want to be out in under an hour.
- It has been two or three weeks since your last one — this is the every-visit service.
Book the Elite Beard Service when…
- You are changing the shape — going shorter, tidying a grow-out, or fixing a beard that has got away from you.
- The beard is long or dense and needs scissor work, not just a fade.
- The skin underneath is dry, itchy or irritated.
- You want the full hot towel straight razor experience — before a wedding, a photo, a date, or just because it has been a while.
- It is your first beard service with us and you want the consultation and a plan for the shape.
A good rhythm for most beards: one Elite to set the shape, then Regulars every 2–3 weeks to hold it, and another Elite every couple of months or whenever the shape needs resetting. You do not need the Elite every time — that is what the Regular is for.
Adding a haircut: the TKO and the KO
If you are getting your hair cut the same day, the packages are the better deal.
- The TKO — an Elite Adult Haircut plus the Beard Regular, $55 for about 45 minutes. Haircut and beard maintenance in one sitting.
- The KO — our full “Knock Out” package: adult haircut, eyebrow/ear/nose trim, hot towel treatment, the Elite Beard Service, the Classic Men’s Facial and premium products, $111 for about an hour. If you want the Elite-level beard treatment and everything else in one sitting, this is the one.

Between visits
- Wash it 2–3 times a week with a beard wash, not shampoo. Shampoo strips the oil the skin needs.
- Oil on damp skin, balm on dry hair. Oil goes to the skin underneath; balm shapes the hair on top. A few drops is enough.
- Brush or comb daily to train the growth direction and spread the oil.
- Leave the lines alone. The most common thing we fix is a neckline or cheek line taken too high at home. If you must tidy, only remove hair below the line your barber set — never move the line.
- Book the next one before you leave. Two to three weeks for a Regular keeps the shape from ever getting away.
Quick answers
Is the Elite Beard Service worth the extra $5?
If you want scissor shaping, a straight razor shave or a skin treatment — yes, easily. If you just want your current beard cleaned up, the Regular is the right choice and the better value.
Does the Regular include a straight razor?
The line-up can be done with clippers or a straight razor, and the power shave takes the stray hair down close. The full hot towel straight razor shave on the cheeks and neck is part of the Elite.
Where should my neckline be?
Roughly a finger above the Adam’s apple, following the natural curve of the jaw back to the ears. Your barber will set it on the first visit — after that, keep it where they put it.
Can I book a beard service on its own?
Yes, both are bookable on their own at all three shops, online or as a walk-in.
